Meet Myrtle, the sourdough starter at the heart of every loaf we bake at Mother’s Love Homestead.
Myrtle was named in honor of my mother, whose given name was Myrtle, though she always preferred to go by Beth. While she wasn’t especially fond of her given name, we chose it as a way to lovingly remember her and carry a piece of her legacy into our home and every loaf we bake. Just as she nurtured those she loved, Myrtle continues to nourish our family and now families across the country.
Our dehydrated sourdough starter is carefully dried from our active, thriving culture so you can bring the tradition of naturally fermented bread into your own kitchen. With just flour, water, and a little patience, Myrtle will come back to life and become the foundation for countless homemade loaves, bagels, pizza crusts, cinnamon rolls, and other family favorites.
